variety1 Variety International Variety was founded, almost accidentally, in Pittsburgh in 1927. Eleven prominent businessmen involved in show business formed a social club which they named the Variety Club. On Christmas Eve, 1928, a child was left at the Sheridan Square Film Theatre, a venue owned by one of the Variety members, with a note attached. This note read: variety2 Variety, the Children’s Charity of Manitoba Variety, the Children’s Charity of Manitoba was established in 1978 and is dedicated to raising funds that enable us to meet the tangible needs of children of all abilities throughout the province. Through the generosity of our many donors throughout Manitoba, including individuals, our corporate community, volunteers, Board of Directors and staff, Variety has raised tens of millions of dollars. We are also very proud to report that other than a very small annual membership fee paid to Variety International, all funds raised in Manitoba, stay in Manitoba.

The Variety Club took up care for Catherine and funded her living expenses and education. After raising more funds than required for Catherine’s care, the Variety Club set about using these funds to help other disadvantaged children. Since 1927, Variety has expanded to include tents in 13 countries, including Canada, the United States, Australia, New Zealand and Great Britain (Variety chapters are called tents in homage to Variety’s show business roots). These organizations have managed to raise in excess of $2 Billion to help children worldwide. A rarity amongst international charities, the funds raised by individual Variety tents remain within their area, with the exception of a small annual stipend to Variety International.

Just a few of the Variety kids who will directly benefit from this exciting project.
